I found this image from the winter festival in Japan, design created with seven million led lights and could only relate to holiday celebrations. I find everyone in a Holiday shopping mood at the mall, grocery store and at social gathering, talking about planning about celebrating Holidays with friends and family. On a personal note, I am looking forward to this snowy month with lots of light installations everywhere and more than that people in the mood to live the moments filled with love and joys.
I think, Christmas and all the other celebrations around the world are here with a purpose; sense of Gratitude and be thankful for all. And buying gifts is one way of living the tradition of giving. I think the purpose behind the gifts is to touch each other in a meaningful way. We begin the Holiday Season with a thought that we would leave all the differences behind with a new beginning.
In my view, in today’s age of technology, emotions are fading away with online gift certificates. It would serve well for students or people living abroad because it would eliminate the cost of shipping something that other person may not even need. Also, if you have not met someone in many years, it is hard to figure out as what they would like. But for other’s who see each other and are a part of our lives, we should make an extra effort to make it meaningful.
I believe that a thought behind the gift is always greater than the size or the cost of the gift. I love personalize gifts. I remember till today that one of my aunt painted a flower on my dress for holidays when I was in middle school. It has become a memory to cherish years later. I miss my first neighbor’s home made cookies every holiday. These small gestures are big acts of courtesy.
I would conclude with sharing a beautiful quote by Henry Clay, “Courtesies of a small and trivial character are the ones which strike deepest in the grateful and appreciating heart.”
What do you think of the Holiday Season and its meaning in life?
Love to hear what you have to say!
