What it takes to get the flowers to your Event?

Dear Readers,

Over the years, I have been asked this question many times, why wedding flowers are expensive when you get roses on the market at a grocery store at a lower price.

Here is the answer based on my experience; designing flowers for any occasion may take a good amount of the time. It depends on the source of flowers, the condition of flowers when they arrive, preparing your workspace, prepping the flowers for to be used in specific designs, and storing at the right temperature and having designers on the team who could represent your signature style and finishing the florals ready to go within a timeline.

I am getting my flowers directly from growers when the particular design need tons of flowers, especially when working on bigger weddings. Also, quality and variety with the size of bloom have a lot to do with pricing. You are not only paying for quality and variety for example, but you are paying for service & accountability as well. It's a lot easier to pick up a dozen roses from a grocery store and tie them into a bouquet. The process for weddings requires a system with a backup plan in case something happens such as variation in color or a thin stem, smaller bloom than anticipated; we deal with that issue behind the scene without you knowing about anything.

I would like to share an experience from a wedding that I did a year ago where I ordered light peach roses (my client loved that tone) as an accent to go with other dark color flowers, but when they arrive, they were different in shade and shape than what we ordered. I always order extra white roses to handle situations like this. We managed to give white roses the form and color that my client had envisioned. That cost additional labor and planning ahead of the time to prepare for the adverse scenario. Not to forget transportation, touch up of flowers on site, set up time.

When any vendor says that they can break the market price then as a smart consumer I would question as what I am getting. My advice is always to consider and go with the vendor who’s style inspire you and who leaves nothing behind regarding service to make it happen. Saving money here ( for flowers ) may not be worth it when you get a surprise element on your wedding day causing you frustration with a compromise on overall feel at the reception or ceremony. Rather relax, allow the designer to assist you in making the right choice based on your budget.

Do you think that quality matters when it comes to celebrating the most important day in one's life?

Love to hear what you have to say!
